February 22, 2008: Birding Amherst Island, Ontario and 1000 Islands

We spent the morning returning to Amherst Island, going to the Owl Woods (link) again (not as productive as yesterday), and then also driving around the island, where we found some cool things). Then, we also got some nice photos on the way out of town, towards the 1,000 islands...

Had a nice lunch at "Sakura", a new looking Japanese restaurant in Kingston.

February 13, 2009: Birding Seneca County, NY

Today we did some birding in Seneca County, from near Seneca Falls, down near Ovid. We tried without success to find the Snowy Owl at the Finger Lakes Regional Airport in Seneca Falls, but found the one in Ovid. The map link below shows the exact location of the owl. We also saw White-Winged Crossbills in Seneca Falls, but missed photographing them.

January 4, 2009: Birdfeeders in Alden, NY

Two unusual winter finches at our birdfeeders today, a PINE SISKIN and COMMON REDPOLL. The latter was very common in the Winter of 2007-08 because of an irrpution but there have not been many reports this year...

January 1, 2009: Birding the Lake Ontario Shore (Rochester)

We spent a little time today on the Lake Ontario Shore at Rochester, doing some birding. It was very cold! (mid-teens only). Not a whole lot of birds, but we did get our first Glaucous Gull shot, and also some interesting ice shots...

December 20, 2008: Nations Road (Livingston County), NY Birding

Today, in between snow storms, we had a clear (but cold) day, we took advantage and went out birding! We went to the Nations Road area in Livingston County near Geneseo, and got some great shots of Short-Eared Owls, and some other photos as well.

A distant flock of Snow Buntings looked like snowflakes!
