May 28, 2011: Birding in Wilson, New York (Niagara County)

We visited our friends Willie and Betsy today up in Wilson on the Lake Ontario shore, and we were rewarded with a few nice birds, including my first ever Canada Warbler shot!

We took advantage of our day off today to go birding along the Lake Ontario shorline, from Olcott, to Rochester (map at the end of the post). Our main intent was to see some of the Snowy Owls that have been reported ... We were not successful, but still got a few semi-decent shots in...

June 3, 2007: Lake Ontario Shore Birding (6 BIRD/ANIMAL PHOTOS)

We started out at Braddock Bay, but it was very quiet there, so we started to head west along the Lake Ontario Parkway. In Hilton, NY we stopped briefly to rescue this Snapping Turtle of the road - he was not that grateful to us!

Next, some birding at Hamlin Beach State Park (far Northwestern Monroe County)

Red-Headed Woodpecker (above and below). This is one of the few locations in Western New York where this species is reliable

Flying Ring-Billed Gulls

The rock jetty was an odd location for this female Red-Winged Blackbird
